How To Create An Ad To Promote Your Business On Facebook

We have had some interest from our friends over at the John Bridge forums as to how they can advertise their business on Facebook and whether it is worth the investment or not.

If you’re a contractor who specializes in tile or stone (or involved in any profession really) and are looking for low cost advertising in order to get your business information out, Facebook may be the way to go without spending massive amounts of money on a website and Google AdWords.

This works well for any industry by allowing you to choose keywords that apply to your business and even target it to geographic location (ie.. “stone” “tile” “contractor” in Los Angeles, CA). This can raise awareness to those in your field or potential clientele.

Before creating an ad campaign, you will want to build a Facebook page. Please note, you will NOT want to create a personal Facebook account for your business. By creating a page, you can promote the details of your business and allow your friends and clients to “like” your business without a mutual friendship.

Once your Facebook page is created, you can start your advertising campaign. To do this, you will want to click on the settings menu in the top right and select the “Create an Ad” option from the dropdown menu.

After selecting your business page, you will be taken to a page that will ask what the goal of your ad is. Here you will want to choose “Get More Page Like”. By doing this, people who share interests or those who may be looking for your expertise have the chance to see your page in their feed. A “Like” may not always lead to a sale but the exposure can help your credibility and may be accessed by friends of those you have “Liked” your page.

Next, you will want to build the ad that your audience will see. Write a catchy headline that will make people intrigued to read more or click the link. First impressions are everything in online advertising so make sure your captivating your audience.

Once you have completed your ad, you will be shown a preview of how it will appear to your audience.

If you are satisfied with how the ad looks, we can move on to who exactly you want your audience to consist of. Since we ship internationally, our audience would be the United States and beyond. If you are a contractor in Miami, FL, chances are you want to appeal to the local market. In the next step, you will select the radius of where you want your ad to reach. This can be a country, state, city or even zip code.

Make sure you select wisely. Though a larger audience may seem attractive, when you’re paying for customers who are not likely to use your service, you’re flushing your money down the toilet.

You will also be able to choose keywords that define who will see your ads. Remember all of those products, movies or services you have “Liked” over the years? Facebook has collected that information in order to make you a target of advertising. Again, be specific in what keywords you use. You can add words like “Batman” and show up on more pages but you wouldn’t be reaching your target market and, once again, losing money.

Now you will be shown an estimate of your “reach”, or how many people are likely to see your ad. You should name your ad for future reference and decide how much money you would like to spend per day. If you would like to only spend $2 per day on your ad, you can do so. Once you have reached your cap for the day, your ad will stop running and will start again on the following day. The more you spend per day, the more eyes you will have on your ad throughout the day.

  1. I have found the face book ad has not been the great driver that is is touted to be. I think these ads are great if you are very active on face book the “like” campaigns like Natalie Gouche’- Mogul Mom who do big “like” Fridays is where you are going to get the likes. I find being involved is more productive.

    • If you really put the time in to learn your market, it can be a great tool. I have used it with an entertainment blog and gained about 2,000 quality likes from my demographic in a couple of weeks. My blogs numbers have soared since.
